Rogue Blight Weapons and Builds

One-handed pairs, left-hand shields, skills, blessings, and the blacksmith — no fake DPS sheet.

Weapons and Builds

Rogue Blight’s build game is two hands, a pile of blessings, and a blacksmith who wants your junk. Steam’s rules are short: all weapons are one-handed; wear sword, daggers, wands, or shield on any hand to create a unique build; shields are left-handed only; there are over 50 weapons, each with unique skills; blessings modify the run; the blacksmith smelts spare gear to upgrade equipment. This page explains those rules with launch-week examples from official copy, the demo, and public footage. It will not invent a complete weapon database or numeric DPS.

For ranked opinions after you understand the rules, use the weapons tier list, builds tier list, and blessings tier list. For how a pair actually wins a duel, stay close to combat.

Dual-wield rules

You hold two one-handed items. Mixed families are legal. A sword plus a wand is a real pair. A dagger plus a left-hand shield is a real pair. Two wands are a real pair. Steam’s sentence is “dual-wield any combo,” and footage backs that up.

Same-type pairs unlock a dual-wield stance in public footage and in-run explanation: two swords, two daggers, or two wands attack at the same time. That footage cited a 40% cut to attack damage and status apply rate while both weapons swing together. Hitting twice is the point — it is not a 40% loss in total output, and it is not a reason to avoid same-type pairs. It is a reason not to compare tooltip damage as if one swing were the whole kit.

Mixed pairs do not automatically double-swing in those clips. You get two different skills, two different statuses, and two different stat lines. That is often the more interesting launch-week build: a Strength sword for the punish and a Dexterity dagger for the read, or a wand for range and a shield for the slam you already know.

Stats visible in footage:

  • Strength — attack damage.
  • Intelligence — mana and elemental damage.
  • Dexterity — crit chance and stamina recovery.

Armor pieces can add those stats. Do not wear a Strength glove on a wand pair just because it dropped. Demo players also described extra weapon slots as a Funguy purchase. Until those exist on your account, you are building a pair, not a loadout of four.

Four weapon families

Steam names four families. Official comments add a design intent for each. Launch-week examples below are from footage and store copy, not a full list.

Swords. Mid-range, Strength-leaning. Known from footage: wooden sword (physical plus poison, Strength +1, Berserk for 15 seconds with a shown +25% damage), iron sword (Rising Slash). Swords hit harder per swing and ask you to stop before stamina dies. Berserk is a mana skill; drink and then commit, do not toggle it as a panic.

Daggers. Fast, Dexterity-leaning. Known from footage: parrying dagger (deflect to stagger; tooltip showed mana cost and Dexterity scaling), dual-dagger Dashing Thrust (thrust forward and pierce). Daggers want the dual-wield stance if you like a blender, or a mixed pair if you want a parry in one hand and a gap-closer in the other.

Wands. Range and Intelligence. Official comment: less damage on normal attacks, much better range, skills that hit harder and consume more mana, which forces a mana-and-health trade. Footage of dual fire wands looked like a machine-gun once attack speed stacked. That is a flask plan as much as a weapon plan.

Shields. Left hand only. They are still “weapons” in the 50+ count. Footage of an ice-style shield showed a hunkering block that could blast damage back and apply Freeze. Pair a shield with a fast right hand so you have a punish after the block. A shield in the right hand is not a legal Steam setup.

If a drop does not match your three stats, smelt it. The blacksmith exists so you stop hoarding “maybe” swords.

Left-hand shield restriction

The store page repeats the restriction twice for a reason: people will try to right-hand a shield and think the game is broken. Left hand is the only shield slot. That also means your right hand is always the unconstrained weapon: sword, dagger, or wand.

Implications at launch:

  • A shield plus dagger is a documented fun pair in footage (bleed dagger with an ice shield came up more than once).
  • You cannot dual-wield two shields.
  • Shield skills still cost whatever the tooltip says — often mana, sometimes a cooldown blessing. Footage showed a “shield skill cooldown reduced” blessing as a chest option.
  • Defend direction follows aim. Mouse or right stick must face the incoming arc. See controls if your block keeps eating hits from the wrong side.

If you hate the restriction, play two weapons and dodge. The game is not a shield-required souls clone. The developer has said wands were deliberately kept from becoming the easy mode of Dark Souls magic; shields are a family, not a crutch that deletes combat.

Pairing skills

Each weapon has a unique skill. Your pair is two verbs. Say them before you enter the node.

Launch-week pairings that showed up in public footage (examples, not a tier list):

  • Wooden sword Berserk + almost anything: a 15-second damage steroid that costs mana. Pair with a skill you can spam during the window, not with another long wind-up.
  • Iron sword Rising Slash + parrying dagger: a vertical punish after a successful deflect.
  • Dual daggers Dashing Thrust: an entry that pierces. Works as a same-type blender if both hands are daggers.
  • Wand shot + sword: range until they commit, then a Strength punish. Mana flasks become mandatory.
  • Left-hand shield + fast dagger: block or ice-blast, then bleed chips.

Do not pair two gap-closers and then wonder why you have no punish. Do not pair two parries and then wonder why you cannot open. Skills also inherit mouse aim. A Dashing Thrust aimed at empty air is a stamina-and-mana donation.

When you cannot decide, look at the status line. Two Bleed tools feed one bar. A Bleed tool plus Freeze changes the fight. Rainbow status without a plan is how runs stall on bosses that needed one bar filled, not five at 20%.

Blessings synergy

Steam: find tons of blessings, unique items that modify character builds. Official scope numbers from the developer site: about 60 blessings and about 25 minor blessings. Chests are the main fountain; shops sell them; some events hand you one. Named examples from public footage, not a complete list:

  • Extra blacksmith forge points, destroyed when you visit the blacksmith. Take this only if a smith node is on your remaining path.
  • Second Life: prevent death, become invincible for 3 seconds, then the blessing is destroyed.
  • If you are above 70% HP, take 35% less damage. This is a flask-discipline blessing.
  • Armor of Thorns: reflect.
  • +7% legendary find.
  • You and enemies gain +20% damage, and +7 max HP after combat. A glass-cannon loop; elite nodes get scarier on purpose.
  • Water pulse every 3 seconds.

Other footage lines (still not a database): aerial attacks deal double damage; after being hit, replenish that damage as health by counter-attacking; after a successful parry, reflect and regain all stamina; attack stamina cost reduced by 20%; drinking a mana potion increases status apply rate by 100% for 12 seconds.

Pick blessings that multiply the pair you already have. Forge points do nothing for a wand you will not upgrade. Second Life does nothing if you still stand in slams. Thorns loves a shield or a face-tank statue stack. The 70% HP rule loves a player who actually drinks. For a ranked take, open the blessings tier list.

Minor blessings at the start of a map are smaller versions of the same idea. Choose the one that matches the starter weapon you just picked.

Blacksmith smelting

Steam: use a blacksmith to smelt spare gear to upgrade your equipment. Footage treated almost every duplicate tunic and leftover dagger as anvil food. Forge points appeared as the smith resource. The extra-forge-points blessing dying on visit is a reminder: path to the smith, then spend the blessing, do not tour the whole map holding it “for later.”

Launch-week smith habits:

  1. Identify the two weapons and the armor pieces that actually match Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence.
  2. Smelt the rest. A backpack of maybes will not swap in combat anyway.
  3. Upgrade the pair you will take into the boss node, not the sword you found first.
  4. If a blessing adds forge points, visit the smith while it still exists.
  5. Statue boosts (health, mana, stamina) are not smith upgrades. Pray at statues for the bar you actually spend. Wands want mana. Dual daggers want stamina. Everyone wants health.

Gold still matters at shops. Do not smelt a shop purchase you have not tried. Do not spend your last gold on a third sword if the sanctuary still needs a Funguy slot unlock — getting started covers that wallet split.

When you want someone else to argue S-tier versus trap, leave this page. The weapons tier list ranks families and named drops we can actually see. The builds tier list ranks pairs and stat plans. This guide only promised the rules: two hands, left-hand shields, skills that must match, blessings that multiply, and a blacksmith that turns fear of deletion into damage you can feel on the next elite.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can I equip a shield in the right hand?

No. Steam states shields are left-handed only. The right hand holds a sword, dagger, or wand. Two shields are not a legal pair.

How many weapons are in Rogue Blight?

Steam says over 50 unique one-handed weapons, each with a unique skill. This wiki will not fake a complete database. Named examples come from footage and official copy.

What is dual-wield stance?

Footage of two weapons of the same type (two swords, two daggers, two wands) showed both attacking together with a 40% cut to damage and status apply rate. Mixed pairs still dual-wield under Steam's any-combo rule without that automatic double swing.

What does the blacksmith do?

Smelt spare gear to upgrade the equipment you keep. A footage blessing added forge points and destroyed itself when you visited. Path to a smith before a boss if you are carrying junk.

Which starter weapon should I pick?

The wooden sword is the teaching blade (poison, Strength +1, Berserk). Unlocks can add a wand or daggers at the start of a run. Pick the family whose skill you already understand, then read the weapons tier list.

Where should I go for ranked builds?

Rules are on this page. Ranked takes are on the builds tier list and blessings tier list. Fight execution is combat.
